Mandara Temple


@Mandara Temple belongs to Seizan-Jodo sect of Buddhism, and people call it "Mandara Temple in Hibo". It is the most highly esteemed sacred place in this district.
The area of this temple is about 1,100 acre, and there are the main temple, a storage, a large study, a small study, Mandara Hall, Jizo hall, an observatory, a treasury, the central gate, the south gate, and so on. In the area of this temple, there are eight branch temples.
The size of the temple proves the fact that it was patronized by Owari-Tokugawa family.

@In 1632, the ruler of Awa feudal clan, Iemasa Hachisuka dedicated the reconstruction of the main temple to thank the kindness and experience he received while he was spending his childhood in the seminary of this temple.

@In 1970, the temple offered a part of its land to the city and the land was equipped as Mandara Park under the administration of the city. The park is 10,000 square meter, which is about one quarter of the temple's property land, and there are a treasury, Hachiman shrine, the Peace Tower, a play ground, an Inari (the god of harvest), a pond, an arbor, a stage, a resting-place, and so on.
There are 2,100 square meter of wisteria trellis, and 120 trees of 12 different kinds wisteria flower trees are planted. "Wisteria flower in Mandara Temple" has become very popular sight spot, and many tourists visits here during "The Wisteria flower festival" time in late April to early May.
