"Kannon Temple" was the family temple of Shouemon Maeno, the warlord of the civil war time, and it was established in 1595. Shouemon was a ruler of Tajima district and later became a guardian, then adviser of Hidetsugu. However, when Hidetsugu committed disembowelment, Shouemon also committed hara-kiri from a sense of responsibility. His nephew, Seisuke felt sympathy with him and to mourn Shouemon's soul, Seisuke took Shouemon's death poem back to his hometown, and established "Kannon Temple". Later in 1748, Kannon Hall opened to worship the Merciful Goddess Buddhist
saint. There are some halls, which worship the Merciful Goddess Buddhist
saint as a principle image, such as Hokke Hall of Todai Temple and Nanen
Hall of Koufuku Temple in Nara. |
