Hannya Temple
Hannya Temple

@Hannya Temple is located in the northeast of Ikoma mansion. It was established by a priest 'Taiun' in 1391, and functioned as a seminary of Shingon sect of Buddhism. A hundred years later, it was restored by a priest 'Shozan', and functioned as a seminary of Sodo sect of Buddhism during Bunmei era (1469-1486).

@The original Temple was burnt down by the fire of battles but it was rebuilt in 1558 as a prayer house of Ikoma family. It once became a branch temple of Kyusho Temple, however, it didn't prosper and became a dwelling of the apprenticeship priests and others. In 1744, it was reconstructed by the ruler of Inba, Toshitoyo Ikoma and 'Daicho' the 8th priest of Kyusho Temple came to be in charge. It prospered as a temple.

@The principal idle in Yakushi Hall is a historic statue, which was curved by taking the image of Kishu-Yakushi in Ikoma Mountain in Yamato district.

@The name ' Kishu' was taken from the story about Ikoma's bravery act to kill a demon with a sword. Here again, we can see how powerful Ikoma family's influence was at that time.
